Uniform Fundraiser Concert

The NHS Band of Pride will be hosting a concert on Thursday, February 25, at Newberry High School. The evening will start at 6 p.m. with dinner in the Commons Area and a Silent Auction. While we eat, there will be time to review and bid on the items in the Silent Auction. At 7 p.m. we will move to the Auditorium for a Concert by the Newberry High School Symphonic Winds. Immediately following the concert, we will then move back to the Commons Area for Dessert and a final chance to bid on the Silent Auction items. The winners of the auction items will be announced that evening.

Dinner is being prepared by NHS’s own Culinary Creations managed by Chef Fredrick Schwarz, the new Culinary Arts instructor, and his students! We have all been hearing wonderful things about the new Culinary Arts Program and this is our chance to enjoy a wonderful meal for only $6 per person! Please join us by completing the bottom portion of this flyer, placing in a sealed envelope with payment and dropping off at the front office at the high school. ALL PAYMENTS ARE DUE BY TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH!

All proceeds from the night’s events are going towards purchasing new NHS Marching Band uniforms! We will have pictures of the new uniforms at the event that night and we hope to even have a sample uniform!

I hope you and your families can join us! If you have any questions, please call Bobbi Reynolds at 352-332-2992. Please leave a message and she will return the call. Thank you!

Finals Weekend Recap

Congratulations to the NHS Band of Pride who competed in the FMBC State Semi-Finals Show at Jefferson High School this past weekend. The band competed against twenty-three other bands in the 1A size division and placed 12th with an overall score of 73.3. This score earned them a superior rating and is the highest score the band has ever received at an FMBC event. The band also defeated all other local bands competing in their size class, including Chiefland, PK Yongue, Bradford, and Bronson High Schools. Congratulations to all the band students, staff, and parents for all their hard work this marching season; and helping it to be such an amazing success!

Also, please read the following advice on how to have the best Finals experience:

This information is here to help you plan ahead for the FMBC State Championships.

1. First and foremost, please make sure your instrument is in good working shape Friday Morning. If you need something fixed, please ask Mr. Cobb sometime during the day on Friday, not at 5:00 AM Saturday morning.
2. Make sure you eat before you get here Saturday morning. Bananas, apples and crackers make great snacks that do not give you a tummy ache. Avoid heavy, greasy, salty, spicy foods at all cost. Also, make sure you are hydrating the entire day. Avoid caffeinated beverages!!
3. You may want to bring a pillow and a blanket. It gets a little chilly on the bus and you may also want to use the blanket to sit on the ground.
4. Leave all Cell Phones on the bus when we perform and please remind your parents to silence their phones during the performance.
5. When we unload or load, please help, but do not stand around in the way.
6. Things happen quickly at these competitions, keep your eyes and ears open at all times for instruction, and follow those instructions to the best of your ability. This will be a new experience for everyone so please be ready to follow instructions at a moments notice.
7. Immediately after the show, report to the equipment trailer to reload. You may change after the trailer has been loaded.
8. Bring money for concessions and souvenirs at the show if you so desire. Remember, avoid greasy, fatty foods. Bringing your own food is best because you will likely eat better and the concession lines are really long.
9. Finally, please remember you are representing the tradition of the NHS Band that you helped create. Have a good time, do your best, and follow instructions. This is the last time we get to perform the show!!
